It is the society's conscientiousness to establish the importance of education in its citizen's development. Each person is entitled to a quality education that will equip him for his future and the future of his society.
One of the common public school problems in the United States today is racial discrimination. Sad but true, for the longest time, the minority group such as the African American race is still in battle for their rights and privilege as citizens of the country. Without surprise, it not only the minority students who have to live with being discriminated in school, but also the educators who are non-white. This crisis has been crippling the quality of education in public schools because it is not seriously condemned.
Non-white students seldom excel in academic activities because of inferiority complex. Their self confidence is way too low because they are "coloured". Speaking their minds out means a possibility of being mocked, laughed at, and rejected; hence they stay inferior. In a past study conducted to assess the success performance of home-schooled students, it was found out that minority students played equally well with the whites. However when the same test was administered on public school students, the whites' score was predominantly higher than that of the minority's. This goes to show that the environment for learning has a significant impact and influence on students; and discrimination plays a crucial role.
Further, racial discrimination does not only pound the students, but even the educators or teachers, who are African American or belong to the minority group, have to live with it. Recently, in a public school in Chicago, numerous veteran educators were retrenched because of the alleged turnaround plan of the present administration. Call it coincidence, the educators laid off were African American, and were replaced by younger white teachers.
Is there a chance for this long-time overdue racial issue to get solved?
Yes there is. Public school administrators who really want to eliminate and abandon racial discrimination must adopt a learning management system. LMS is software that is designed for tracking, managing and monitoring education and training in the web. As set up online, LMS uses virtual learning to educate the students in a manner entirely different from the classroom-but the academic lessons are the same or could me more comprehensive and intensive. There are many benefits that an LMS can provide the schools for public education. For educational purposes, the role of the LMS is to stimulate the learning of the students through the vast features and capabilities of the virtual technology. This will teach the students to become more resourceful and responsible for their academic undertakings-diverting their attention away from attacking dissimilar races. Instead of physically going to school, the student will be able to attend classes and gain training online. Minority students will no longer be anxious about their colour, rather express their opinions and insights out without the fear of prejudice. Similarly, the teachers who are African American will no longer worry about their age-and race-since the focus of learning is made online. Finally, to completely eradicate discriminatory "encounters", through the LMS, the students will be given fair treatment in terms of gaining their deserved merits since the LMS can measure performance based on inputs. Objective, and not subjective, treatment will prevail.
Using a learning management system, it is possible to eliminate the issue on racial discrimination in public schools. When this succeeds, the improvement and restoration of the quality of education in the United States will follow. The use of a learning management system does not only benefit the students, parents, or the school, but the entire society in the long run.
